More Than A Million Cheer On City's Spirited Puerto Rican Day Parade

Fifth Avenue filled with music, dance and Puerto Rican pride with Sunday's 56th annual Puerto Rican Day Parade marched past more than an estimated million spectators.
Running from 44th Street to 79th Street, the parade included a group of people carrying a Puerto Rican flag the size of a city block, many dancers and lively salsa, bomba and plena music.

This year, the parade's theme was health and the grand marshal was entertainer Chita Rivera, who is perhaps most famous for originating the role of Anita in Broadway's "West Side Story."

At a pre-parade breakfast, Rivera said being chosen to represent her culture in front of a crowd of over a million people was the "cherry on top" of her life's achievements.
