Murfreesboro election protest dismissed

AHOSKIE - James Byerly’s protest of the results of the Nov. 4 municipal election in Murfreesboro has been dismissed.

At a meeting held here Friday evening, the Hertford County Board of Elections dismissed the protest because it did not meet the statutory requirements outlined in G.S. 163-182.9.

“Specifically, the allegations presented were not eligible to be considered as an election protest under North Carolina law,” said Ka'Wania Parker, Director of the Hertford County Board of Elections.

Parker added that Byerly, an incumbent on the Murfreesboro Town Council, alleged that certain voters casting ballots in Murfreesboro registered to vote by using their mailing address rather than their physical residential address, particularly students attending Chowan University.
