Voting Rights Phone Banks in Durham & Orange County

The past two months have not been kind to those of us who value voting and democracy. Legislators in the General Assembly have introduced bills that would slash early voting, eliminate Sunday voting, and get rid of same-day registration. This is in addition to extreme efforts to make it harder for college students to vote and the introduction of restrictive new voter ID requirements. In a time when North Carolina has some of the highest voter participation rates in the country, legislators are trying to make it harder to vote. (More information attached.)

We believe it is very likely that the legislature will try to rush these bills through at the very end of the session, immediately after the budget negotiations.
Fortunately, there are several ways that we can all directly respond though specifically targeted phone banking on voting rights issues. All of these phone banks involved calling voters and asking them to call targeted legislative leadership with the potential to decide the fate of these bills. This work is complimentary to the critical work of the Moral Monday efforts. Please consider volunteering one or more evenings in the coming weeks.
