Forget the merits of the proposed legislation. There are none. Its not even worth discussing. The chances of this legislation withstanding any challenge in court are slim to none, just as in Texas; but that's beside the point.
The Republicans in the General Assembly are making a mockery of your state, of your government, of the very idea of representative democracy. This isnt a matter of Democrat versus Republican, even; its a matter of adult versus sociopathic juvenile. This is not how the peoples business should be conducted not anywhere, by anyone.

(15,480 posts)I suggest North Carolina pass a law requiring Viagra be prescribed only one pill at a time; that physicians be required to administer psychiatric evaluations, cardiac stress tests, prostate exams and colonoscopies to every man before handing them that prescription; that a physician be present when the man takes said pill; and that each man must produce a notarized statement from his wife indicating that she's aware of what he's asking for, and is ovulating.

(36,974 posts)North Carolina Abortion Bill: State Senate Votes On Restrictive Measure
North Carolina's state Senate voted Tuesday to pass a second reading of a measure placing tougher restrictions on abortion after Republicans in the legislature tacked the abortion regulations on to a bill targeting Sharia law.
The state Senate passed the second reading of the omnibus bill by 27-14. A final vote will be held Wednesday.
The bill, according to the News & Observer, would require abortion clinics to meet the same standards as ambulatory surgery centers. Just one clinic in the state currently meets that standard, according to staffers in the state legislature. The sweeping legislation would also place limits on health care coverage for abortion procedures, require clinics to have "transfer agreements" with hospitals, and require doctors to be present when women take RU486, the drug that induces abortions.

2014 will be interesting. Will those who believe in freedom stand up in enough numbers to toss these slime out? Will the Democratic party in these states field pro-choice candidates in each slot so that people have a choice?

Sounds familiar. This is exactly the conditions under which recent gun control laws have been passed.
I hope we all agree that this is not how the peoples business should be conducted. Unfortunately it appears that politicians on both sides of the aisle increasingly have a double standard. Civility is dead except when it serves their purposes.
