Budget cuts hurt high school marching band

Winston-Salem high school in desperate need of band instruments.

As a marching band veteran, this story breaks my heart and makes me furious. Thanks to Teabagging budget cuts in NC, school music programs are in serious trouble this year. Carver High School is limited to broken cymbals, one working Sousaphone (held together with duct tape) and one trombone for three students. They need EVERYTHING. Can we spread the word?

If you have a contact at the school perhaps you can pass along the following information. There are several grant programs available to help fund public school music programs:

Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation
http://www.mhopus.org/

NAMM Foundation
http://www.nammfoundation.org/programs-grants

Fender Music Foundation
http://www.fendermusicfoundation.org/grants/

I believe there may be a few others as well.

Good Luck!

at the school my kids went to.

It was painful listening to them at the half time show of every home football game.
Every song sounded the same, screeching and awful.

Then they got a new music director and BAM! it was like night and day. Songs were recognizable and enjoyable. I think my foot was even tapping.
