CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) - UNC Police on Monday arrested two people suspected of racist vandalism on the University of North Carolina's campus, according to a news release.

Nancy Rushton McCorkle, 50, of Newberry, South Carolina, and Ryan Francis Barnett, 31, of Sanford, were arrested Monday. McCorkle is charged with vandalism - damage to real property and ethnic intimidation. Barnett is charged with two counts of vandalism - damage to real property, ethnic intimidation, and public urination. All are misdemeanor charges, the release said.

The release added that a criminal summons was also issued for McCorkle and Barnett for stealing the flag from the top of the UNC System Building on the same morning. The estimated cost of the flag is $585.

Racist vandalism was found around 1:30 a.m. on March 31 on the Unsung Founders Memorial. Hateful language was also found on an installation outside Hanes Art Center.
