GOP Sen Alexander walks into redistricting room and discovers his district has been made competitive

Dave Weigel Retweeted

This is incredible:

1. North Carolina GOP Sen. Alexander walks into the redistricting room and discovers that his district has been made competitive.
2. He quietly slices up the district to cut out Democratic voters.
3. He gets caught.
4. He announces his retirement.

Did he announce his retirement because his district is now competitive? OR
Did he announce his retirement because he got caught and feels bad about it?

Oh wait---he's a Republican, he doesn't feel bad at ALL! He just doesn't want to lose.

is the Senator from Tennessee. 1. Nothing to do with NC redistricting problems. And 2, He is Senator for all of Tennessee. Districts mean nothing to him personally. But you did get he's retiring right. Google it!

It is obvious from the post that this is an NC state office.

Glad the guy got caught. Just wish there was jail time involved.

State legislators draw their own district lines in most states so there is ample opportunity for gerrymandering. Politicians choose their voters. It should be voters choose their politicians. Some states do it by independent commission.

I thought the context was pretty clear that it had to be a state senator.

and that our state senate just didn't exist. It was easily proved that our state senate does exist and has a website. It was weird. Maybe some states don't have a senate?
