School nixes game amid furor over cheerleaders' Trump banner

Officials in a North Carolina school district have canceled a football game at a high school where cheerleaders were placed on probation for displaying a banner that said, "Trump 2020: Make America Great Again."

Stanly County Schools announced Friday that it decided to cancel the North Stanly High School game over what it called "additional information that could compromise safety measures" for sporting events. Officials didn't detail that information.

Supporters had urged fans to attend the game to back the cheerleaders and protest the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's decision to put the squad on probation.

The banner was displayed before the Aug. 30 game at North Stanly, northeast of Charlotte.

County Schools Superintendent Jeff James has said all North Carolina schools have a policy against displaying political signs.

Trump, who brags about sexually abusing women, who cancels women-friendly rules, who hung out with someone who sexually abused girls their age, who himself used beauty pageants as a way to see girls naked...

What are they thinking? How many of them were in support of this?

And really, how stupid are they-- "make American great again" when Trump is already president kind of means... get rid of Trump.

Back in the day, we used to have "consciousness-raising" seminars where we young women would examine the effects sexism had on our lives and self-image.

Methinks these girls might benefit from that.

every day -- many, many millions of them, nationally; billions of them, globally.

My grandmother used to refuse to watch Diane Sawyer when she began as the news anchor on ABC. Because presenting the news was, in her words, "a man's job." Even when directly confronted with the question of whether she or her daughters or granddaughters would be less capable of presenting the news than her husband or sons or grandsons, she just insisted that it was "a man's job" -- though she did not ever explicitly admit to her nor her female progeny's inability.

It is just acculturated self-imprisonment -- a disappointingly well-established behavior. These people seem to think women being subjected to sexual assault is *merely* the natural order of things and thereby not worth thinking too much about nor acting upon.

A nurse heard some commentary on one of the shows and said that she hoped we didn't get a woman President because women are bitches. Unfortunately, there are far too many women who think like her, and that has served to keep many women from power. I started to tell her I didn't think women should be nurses because who wants a bitch for a nurse, but I thought I would be smarter than her and keep my mouth shut.

(although I realize that would not preclude .. )
Ignorant is ignorant. And remember, to a LOT of people in this country, Trump is NOT a racist.
