Cincinnati mayoral candidates clash in spirited debate ahead of upcoming election

CINCINNATI (WKRC) - The race for Cincinnati's mayoral seat intensified as incumbent Democrat Aftab Pureval and Republican challenger Cory Bowman faced off in their first debate.

Pureval, who became the city's 70th mayor in 2022, is seeking reelection, while Bowman, a political newcomer and founding pastor of the River Church Cincinnati, aims to bring an outsider's perspective to City Hall.

The hour-long debate covered a range of issues, with crime taking center stage. Bowman criticized the current administration's support for law enforcement.

"We have brave individuals with our police department. We have to support them and back them up. I don't believe that's actually been happening in our administrative capabilities of city hall," said Bowman.
