Stark school leaders urge voters to pass levies with tax changes ahead

Six Stark County school districts are seeking levy renewals this fall — and school leaders are concerned about what will happen if they don't pass because Ohio lawmakers are prohibiting emergency and replacement levies after this election.

If the levies aren't approved, school officials are unclear how they will move forward. The money generated by the levies supports general operating expenses, mostly salaries and benefits.

Many of the levy requests, which will not increase tax bills, seek to renew emergency levies.

"It's going to be a nightmare," Louisville Treasurer Derek Nottingham said. "It's hard to have a definitive plan. We'll have to see what happens in November and then reassess moving forward."
