Oregon man accused of making Facebook threat to shoot up Social Security office after being denied

Oregon man accused of making Facebook threat to shoot up Social Security office after being denied benefits

A Salem man is accused of making threats on Facebook and in a phone call to the Social Security Administration on Sept. 11 after being denied benefits months earlier and getting banned from all the federal agency’s offices.

"I’m going to go to this hearing and people are going to (expletive) pay. Do you understand?'' Erick Carlsen, 45, said in a voicemail left with an agent at the local Social Security Administration office, according to court papers.

The same day, Carlsen is accused of posting on his Facebook page a rambling missive titled, "Why do People Go on Shooting Sprees.'' He wrote about his frustrations with Social Security Administration hearings, pledging "now its (sic) time I showed them'' and promising that he would get on the front page and every TV station, according to a federal complaint unsealed Wednesday.

Someone who read Carlsen’s Facebook post alerted authorities and told investigators that Carlsen "has the potential to follow through,'' the complaint says.
