Andrea Salinas - I went grocery shopping with my constituent Sue.

We were shocked at how much more expensive life has become for Oregonians.

since a lot of stuff on her list---Kosher hot dogs, grass fed hamburger, nuts----qualify as extreme luxuries for poor folks (been there).

What I'm seeing around here is the cheapest cuts of pork, the basic meat for families, is starting to vanish completely, replaced by extra amounts of dried beans.. It's unbelievably sad. Veggies are the way I ate when I was poor, root veggies and cabbage, no fruit at all unless it's a major holiday or somebody's birthday. Pet food is economy sized bags of brand X kibble, mostly when they find it at Big Lots or another super economy store, Wally's if theycan't.

Sadly, I think Sue will start to get there unless she's locked into a job with good worker protection and a high enough salary to give her family a soft landing. Of course, when the tech bubble pops, we're all going to be poor for a while, even if we've still got money.
