No Pennsylvania casino offered a bid in the latest mini-casino auction Wednesday morning, leaving in question whether the state will gain just the five of those already planned rather than the 10 made possible under last years gambling expansion law.

(28,394 posts)Do younger people go to casinos? I just remember the busloads of seniors going to Atlantic City a couple of decades ago.

(32,645 posts)I guess it's a generational thing, and the younger ones aren't entertained. That's my guess, but what do I know?
My brother hits the casinos fairly often, but I have no interest.

(15,286 posts)I like to go up occassionally to The Rivers casino in Pgh. You just have to set a certain amount of money you're willing to lose/spend. Once that's gone, then you quit and go have a nice meal in one of the restaurants there.
One of the mini-casinos is tentatively planned for just a few miles from my home.

(9,267 posts)Since we cannot raise the wage tax upon penalty of extreme screaming by the useless GOP state legislature. Has not gone up since the Rendell admin. Every time I see someone accusing Gov. Wolf of raising taxes I remind them of this. So the only revenue sources that can go up are sin taxes - alcohol, cigarettes, gambling.

(9,267 posts)Which has no state income tax. But in PA it costs $42 annually for car registration. I think it's about $250 in Florida. That's how they make up for no income tax. Talk about a regressive tax.

(15,286 posts)If there's no income tax, then you have personal property taxes or high fees for things like car registration, licenses, etc or taxes on food and clothes, neither of which PA has.
