State House Rep Brian Ellis (R-Butler) resigned, Special elect May 21st

over sexual assault allegations. There was a bi-partisan consensus he should resign. There will be yet another special election, which, I'm thinking will coincide with the upcoming primary. I'm not sure this seat is flippable given that Butler county is pretty conservative, but you never know.

Headline: Butler County state legislator resigns following accusations of sexual assault

...

Last week, the woman filed a formal complaint with an attorney representing the GOP Caucus and its members on the Ethics Committee, which has the power to recommend various sanctions, up to removing someone from the House.

The woman wrote in her complaint that she went to a Harrisburg bar with a friend in October 2015, believes she had less than two drinks and then “was in a state of blackout.”

She wrote that she woke up in Ellis’ bed the next morning, naked and in pain. When she confronted Ellis, he told her they had sex, and she believes was raped, according to her complaint.

The Inquirer and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette do not identify victims of alleged sexual assaults unless they wish to be named. The woman works in state government but not directly for Ellis.

This time, the woman was heard and believed!

or someone well known to Republicans. I thought it was odd the state Rs called on Ellis to resign right away. That's not their usual MO.

Doctor ran, as an Independent, against Ellis this past Nov and suffered a lop-sided loss. Butler is very GOP friendly territory, so a D pick up isn't too likely, especially with a failed, repeat candidate.
