Armstrong County Commissioner Battaglia Faces Audit of Campaign Contributions

The article is from the Tribune Review, so it neglects to state that Battaglia is a Republican who is friends with Corbett and Toomey. He was one of the chairmen of Toomey's election campaign. Battaglia also counts the Ories among his political friends.

It's more corruption with the Corbett Crowd.

"KITTANNING — Armstrong County Commissioner Dave Battaglia is facing a possible audit of his campaign contributions in the November election that resulted in him winning his post."

"Battaglia is being asked to explain discrepancies between his original 2011 campaign finance report and an amended one he filed later."

"Six county residents petitioned the Armstrong County Court of Common Pleas on Feb. 2 for an audit of the report. They allege Battaglia didn't properly report contributions."

"So far Battaglia has delayed answering the charges."

"Jesse Daniel, of the Serene Law firm of Indiana representing the "Friends of Dave Battaglia" campaign committee, was in county court on Tuesday seeking another extension to produce the documents associated with the contributions."

"In question is a single $7,800 amount listed as being contributed by anonymous on Battaglia's initial report. An amended report filed by Battaglia Nov. 4 reports the amount broken down into smaller increments under the category of $50 and under."

"Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett recently announced the appointment of Dave Battaglia, a longtime National Rifle Association Election Volunteer Coordinator in Western Pennsylvania, as a member of the Sportsmen for Tom Corbett Coalition."

<snip>

"Battaglia is also Armstrong County Chairman for the Pat Toomey for Senate campaign, and serves as chairman of the Win Back Congress committee for the Indiana-Armstrong Patriots Inc. He was named Armstrong County Republican of the Year for 2007."

"Last Fall, Battaglia was lauded by the GOP State Committee as instrumental in the election of six out of seven pro-second amendment judges including Supreme Court Justice Joan Orie-Melvin. He also chaired the 2004 Bush-Cheney campaign here."

"Lance: To Dave Battaglia. The Armstrong County commissioner's campaign is being accused of election finance skulduggery -- a $7,800 donation from "anonymous," then an amended report that appears to be an attempt to reconfigure that amount into smaller increments. When asked about it, Battaglia said he couldn't comment while the case is in court. What a pile of horse hockey. There's no legal reason he can't answer. As for the real reason, we can think of several possibilities -- accounting ineptitude, ignorance of campaign financing laws, a lame attempt to protect the identity of a single, large donor."
