So Corbett is the head of the PA. Republican delegation at the Convention. To announce PA's votes, he starts off with a long-winded speech about PA. history. Then he announces the number of delegates for Romney "and 5 votes for Paul Ryan."
Wolf Blitzer didn't know who Corbett was, and breaks in to say that the PA. spokesman meant to say "Ron Paul." It wouldn't have been so bad if Blitzer had not just said that he had never seen so much intentional disrespect for a candidate as was being aimed at Ron Paul at the convention.
The Republicans are refusing to announce any votes for Ron Paul from the podium. This is after some Ron Paul delegates walked out. Sunnu said the Party is angry that Ron Paul supporters mis-used the caucus process. Of course, that is the fault of the Party by having such screwy caucus rules instead of letting the people elect delegates in direct primaries.
This post explains the anger that was evident at the time among Paul supporters about the way they were being treated.

Meanwhile, CNN keeps breaking away from convention coverage for information about the hurricane. They just announced that New Orleans is definitely getting 20 inches of rain. The new pumps were not designed to handle that velocity of rain.

(4,452 posts)I moved away in 85 and came back in 02 and can't believe the level of nutbaggery and idiocy I encounter. Seriously, steel city, hardened working people that could understand the value of paying their taxes or the collective operations of unions to make things better for everyone.
I would watch that stuff but I don't have the stomach for it. Better to let someone with a stronger stomach observe and report. Besides I get more positive energy listening to Bob Kinkaid.

(22,165 posts)We were living in CA before that....the changes happening in politics here, well since Santorum was first elected really, have been gut wrenching. My Dad was a Steelworker, active in his union and in the Dem. party. He passed away in 2004. He wouldn't believe what has become of our state politics!

(18,219 posts)to find a frigging nightmare here. I have been back since 1992, and I do not remember it being this right wing before.
Corbett is embarrassing HIMSELF, he is not embarrassing ME. I have had absolutely no part in him being our gov.

(18,219 posts)and share feelings with Democrats. We have a very active Democratic party in my county. There is the county Democrats, there is a Democratic Women group, and always functions. I would be lost without them.
Maybe you can find groups you are unaware of. PA Federation of Democratic Women has some affiliated groups listed on their website (weird that our county has one but instead of listing the group, it just lists a login---what's with that!)

I have also been active in the League of Women Voters, and many of the views on issues that they espouse are the same views that I have. This organization is nonpartisan, but they do a really good job or hosting debates and working to get voters educated on their choices and issues, as well as encouraging new voters. Check out their issues and positions to see if it is a fit for you. And at least in my county, you do not have to be a member to attend their functions.

Or, you can do what we did in our county when the Democratic women wanted to determine if there was enough interest to form a group. We put a notice in the newspaper asking for interested people to come to an organizational meeting. We had a good crowd and moved forward. Take the tiger by the tail.

(18,219 posts)Is there a county fair in your county? If you go, I would be surprised that there is not a booth for the Democrats. That would be the place to find like-minded Dems in your area.

(28,394 posts)I missed the roll call because it was on at dinner time! Another example of the republicans not knowing how to schedule their convention. Everyone enjoys the roll call... should have been on in prime time. Dumbasses.
