This is a video from my new Internet newscast, the only grassroots progressive media show exclusively about Pennsylvania politics, Counterpoint PA.
In this video, I talk about the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources being pressured to finally host a public meeting about its negotiations with two fracking companies to start drilling for natural gas in the Loyalsock State Forest and show video from the meeting, where over 400 people showed up and every member of the public that made a statement was either opposed to or worried by the potential drilling.

(6,819 posts)Unfortunately, there have been some court cases that limit what public agencies can do to regulate fracking under their land when companies hold the mineral rights. During the Rendell Administration, DCNR was overruled by a court decision when they tried to carefully regulate natural gas activities. T
The same fights are happening under the Allegheny National Forest on federal lands. The Fed. Bureau of Land Management recently issued a new set of proposed standards to try to control fracking under federal lands.
