Former Congressman Critz to run for Lt. Governor

Critz to run for lieutenant governor

Former Congressman Mark Critz confirmed Wednesday he plans to run for lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania.

“This will give me an opportunity to not only serve the new areas that are in the 12th district, but it gives me a chance to serve the people I lost in redistricting and all of Pennsylvania. I thought there's an opportunity there,” the Johnstown Democrat said.

“I have a very strong grassroots organization, and I think that not only could I be successful in the (2014) primary but then I could help the ticket in a race in the fall,” said Critz, who believes he provides geographical balance to the ticket because all six announced Democrat gubernatorial candidates are from eastern Pennsylvania.

Critz lost the 12th district seat to Republican Keith Rothfus during the 2012 general election.

I hope he runs as a Democrat in the Lt. Governor's race. In the race for the 12th last fall, it was hard to tell what party Critz belonged to.

With that being said, I guess he did have to take into consideration that District 12 was gerrymandered expressly for Keith Rothfus. Critz was trying to appeal to that demographic.

"I'm Mark Critz and I'm pro-life and pro-gun" (something like that)!

I would love to see someone challenge Rothfus though.

Rothfus didn't win by all that much, in spite of the fact that the district was tailor-made for him!
