U. Penn closing 2 libraries - satire is that they want students to feel pain of Phila. students

https://newsatpenn.wordpress.com/

First, the true part of the story. U. Penn has announced that they will be closing both their engineering and math libraries and moving the books to New Jersey. The Engineering dean says that books are obsolete. He said that the head librarian will still be in the engineering building, so it isn't so bad.

Now the satire, at the link. U. Penn removes the two books from its official coat of arms, which just leaves the current weird fish.

Another satire at the link says that U. Penn's President said the closing of the libraries is intended to help affluent U. Penn students understand the pain that is being experienced by Phila. public school students, who have no librarians and little ability to use their underfunded school libraries.

Many of the math grad students pointed out that they still do regularly use printed books. Also, the students say the libraries are some of the few available study spaces.
