Teabaggers protest outside two children's homes in eastern PA

The federal government has been contracting with children's homes throughout the US to care for unaccompanied immigrant children while they are being processed for a return to their home country. Two of those facilities are Bethany Children's Home in Berks County and Kidspeace in Lehigh County. Both facilities faced emotional protests yesterday from angry old pasty white teabaggers. One person even showed up with a Confederate flag (very subtle).

I guess these protesters don't want these children cared for at professionally-run children's homes. They want them to stay in these federal immigrant detention centers.

At both protests, there were also counter-protesters.

There was also a protest in Bethlehem. So far, none out here in the western corner although some children are coming to a Catholic facility in Alleg. Co.

I was always opposed to w's "faith-based" initiative, but these church-based organizations seem to be stepping up and appear to be way better than those hideous detention facilities run by the govt. JMO-- I haven't done any research or anything but I'm sure they receive government aid.

"Mary O'Grady, in What Drove The Children North, sums up General Kelly's views:

'In a July 8 essay in the Military Times headlined "Central America Drug War a Dire Threat to U.S. National Security," Gen. Kelly explains that he has spent 19 months "observing the transnational organized crime networks" in the region. His conclusion: "Drug cartels and associated street gang activity in Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, which respectively have the world's number one, four and five highest homicide rates, have left near-broken societies in their wake." He notes that while he works on this problem throughout the region, these three countries, also known as the Northern Triangle, are "far and away the worst off."

With a homicide rate of 90 per 100,000 in Honduras, and 40 per 100,000 in Guatemala, life in the region is decidedly rougher than "declared combat zones" like Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the general says the rate is 28 per 100,000.' "
