Charter School Staff lead protest against public schools, encourages student walkouts for 5 days

Last edited Sun Sep 27, 2015, 01:53 PM - Edit history (4)

Is there is a concentrated effort by a charter school to disrupt a public school district and make it look bad, so that more public school students will switch to a charter school????

The Medical Arts Charter School mainly serves students from the Allentown School District. The article above describes how a teacher at that school organized a major protest by his charter school students at a Allentown School Board meeting. The article describes various sources that says the charter school teacher was working on the protests during school time. He offered free food to the students who showed up for the protest, which became unruly and needed a police response.

Most of the students who showed up for the protest attended the charter school with the teacher currently teachers or the nearby charter school where he taught last year. It appeared they were being manipulated, and some didn't really know why they were there, since they don't attend the public schools.

He is now encouraging public school students at the Allentown schools to walk out of the schools for 5 days. He says they will walk out unless the Allentown Superintendent is fired immediately. They also are demanding that the current high school student representatives on the school board be given full voting rights, which would be a clear violation of state law, because they were not elected.

He told students that "we have lawyers" so they will not be punished if they walk out. The School District says they will be punished, and if they walk out, they will not be allowed back in the schools. The police have promised to be present.

The top administrator of that charter school used to be an administrator in the Allentown School District. He was fired from the School District, sued the School District, resigned his position, and then said he would sue again. With only 220 students in this charter school, it hard to believe the top administrator didn't know his social studies teacher was spending so much school time fighting the public schools and organizing his students.

"In the false report case, Allentown police said in November that Markham ran two red lights, abandoned his Maserati, ran from officers and then jumped into a passing stranger's car. Markham was able to get away from police the night of Nov. 2, but the next day he reported his 2005 black Maserati was stolen from a Bethlehem parking garage, police said.

In that case, Markham pleaded guilty Friday to filing a false police report and driving with a suspended license, and the remaining charges were withdrawn, records say. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail, and is scheduled to report to the jail at the end of March, followed by one year of probation, records say."
