More local gas industry jobs going to out-of-state workers

EVANS CITY, Pa. -
For nearly a decade, the natural gas industry has promised and delivered thousands of jobs to western Pennsylvania residents.

But Action News Investigates has learned more and more of those jobs are now going to workers from out of state.

At the end of the day, the workers take a bus to the employee parking lot.

There were cars from Texas, Wyoming, Kentucky, Georgia, North Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma and other states but only a handful from Pennsylvania.

-snip-

The influx of out-of-state workers began in June when MarkWest brought in a non-union contractor, Bilfinger Westcon, of North Dakota.

Drug test? Interesting that only union workers failed it... Panich52 Oct 2015 #3

I wonder if that is true or just an excuse.

This is nothing new.... we have seen these out-of-state trucks here (western PA) for a number of years. The local motels have been their "man camps." Fortunately, drilling has tapered off in the past two years or so. Funny how during the "boom" those jobs were never advertised here.
