Springdale police lose liability insurance ...

Springdale (17 miles northeast of Pittsburgh) is losing its police liability insurance because of “too many lawsuits,” borough council President Jason Fry said.

A recent $110,000 settlement with former Cheswick Councilman Jonathan Skedel, a number of pending federal cases against the police department, and rumors of more to come were cited by the company in not renewing the borough's coverage.

The key is to hold institutions responsible financially. Thus the right wing concern about tort law and corporations shifting to arbiters. They all know that losing insurance will put them out of business.

I have to drive about 15 miles to the Springdale town building 4 times a year to pick up or drop off voting materials for elections. I need to go in the entrance closest to the police department part of the building. Each time, a Springdale police car has been parked in the only handicapped spot provided. Way to go, jerks!!!
