Cosmo DiNardo has confessed to his participation or commission in the killings of the four missing men in exchange for a promise from prosecutors that they would not pursue the death penalty, DiNardos defense attorney told reporters outside the Bucks County Courthouse late Thursday afternoon.
In exchange for his confession, Mr. DiNardo was promised by the district attorney that he will spare his life by not invoking the death penalty, said lawyer Paul Lang.
Bucks County District Attorney Matthew D. Weintraub planned to hold a news conference later Thursday evening, his office said, after Langs statement. He has not confirmed the attorneys statement, but the office retweeted a report of it.

Lang said he would not say what DiNardos motive was out of respect for the families involved. Thatll come out in time, he said.
As DiNardo was led out of court Thursday evening, news footage showed he said Im sorry as reporters asked what he would say to the families of the men he confessed to killing.

(3,194 posts)Being a sane person, I'll never understand how someone can think it's quite alright to MURDER 4 innocent people in cold blood, that their lives are not worth a shit. But for themselves, they couldn't imagine losing their own life.
They are even willing to live out the remainder of their lives in jail somewhere, like that's some great prize. Even so, it's better than death. But complete disregard for those whose lives were taken, FAR FAR too early.

(9,268 posts)1. We "have" the death penalty, but no one has actually been executed in 18 years.
2. Life actually means life here. In order fur him to be paroled, he would have to be pardoned by the governor. I don't ever see that happening.
3. It is virtually impossible to get a conviction on "guilty by reason of insanity" here. (From what I'm hearing he may have a history of mental illness but this was a "hit."
His "bargain" was largely because why bother with the expense and complications of the death penalty when it's never going to happen anyway.
