I want to thank Greater Harrisburg YWCA, Planned Parenthood, American Association of University Women and the other sponsors of last night's screening of Equal Means Equal. You provided a valuable service to your community.

Like many of you, I have long been a champion of equal rights for all. This documentary includes many facts and scenes that are familiar to anyone interested in equal and fair treatment for women, something that remains embarrassingly out of reach in this country.

For me, the power of this film is that it brings so many of the barriers and examples of institutional discrimination together in one sitting. That makes for a powerful, even overwhelming effect.

Whether you are a woman or the son, brother, husband, or father of a woman or girl, this film and this issue is exceedingly important to you. When we are holding back girls and women, we are holding back our families, our communities, and our nation. That is, we are directly harming ourselves. We can stop this. We must stop this.

The website for the film includes a place to make a screening request. I encourage you to talk to your friends or your organizations, plan an event, and fill out the request. If you need help, I and my campaign are willing to lend a hand.
