RI hasn't submitted plan to address Eleanor Slater Hospital deficiencies
PROVIDENCE — Nearly two months after issuing a scathing report on a multitude of "deficiencies" at the state-run Eleanor Slater Hospital that put patients in jeopardy, the federal agency that holds the purse strings has "yet to receive an acceptable Plan of Correction."
That update was provided to The Journal on Tuesday by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, in response to the latest in a series of inquiries.
The federal agency is also "closely monitoring" the hospital, in the wake of serious allegations of patient abuse raised by the watchdog organization Disability Rights Rhode Island, after a video of a single day at the hospital came to light.
The tinderbox of unsettled issues resurfaced Tuesday, the day before a Senate Finance subcommittee was scheduled to hold an untelevised hearing on the state and federally financed budget for the hospital.
