RI-LG: Matos (D) launches bid for second term as lieutenant governor
A standout moment during Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos’ time in Rhode Island’s second-highest executive office was a trip to a mass vaccination clinic in Woonsocket during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Matos, who is originally from the Dominican Republic, recalled a group of young women of color who began to applaud as she walked past them.
“At that moment I realized for them it meant so much to see someone that looks like them, that sounds like them, at the highest levels of government here in the state of Rhode Island,” she said.
It’s the reason why Matos is seeking a second term as lieutenant governor, she told a crowd of over 100 supporters gathered at Farm Fresh RI in Providence for her campaign kickoff Wednesday afternoon
