Marshall wins runoff election for Abbeville city council seat

ABBEVILLE — Stanley Marshall will represent District 1 on Abbeville City Council.

He won Tuesday's runoff at the Abbeville Civic Center with 105 votes to Joshua Baughman's 70. Louise Aiken vacated the seat after she moved out of the district that has 385 registered voters, according to Abbeville County Elections Director Jatavius Coleman.

The runoff was required after a 55-55 tie in the June 3 special election. Turnout in the special election was about 28.5%, while turnout in the runoff was about 45%, Coleman said.

Historically, the average turnout for a special election is 20-25%, Baughman said. In a general election, you can expect 30-35%.
