North Augusta City Council considers moving local elections to November
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WFXG) - Monday night, the North Augusta City Council discussed a date change for municipal elections. The council held its first reading of a new ordinance that would move local elections to November.
Spring elections for positions like mayor and city council have historically led to low voter turnout. By moving these elections to General Election Day in November, the council hopes to yield a higher turnout for these races.
This would align the election season for North Augustas municipal elections into an even year, City Administrator Jim Clifford said. Much like Representative Hixon or Senator Young and the federal election cycle is when we would have our elections.
North Augusta Mayor Briton Williams stressed the importance of this measure to get more citizens to the polls.
