Charleston student leads charge to recruit young poll workers for upcoming elections

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — One College of Charleston student is working to get young people involved in the election process as poll workers.

Kirti Reddy is working as an intern with the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections this year. Her passion for the right to vote is guiding her as she prepares to help her generation get to the polls.

"I love so many things about the job," Reddy said. "I just felt like I had to share that with people my age because when people know what it is, I don't see why they wouldn't want to do it."

Local election officials are asking for more volunteers to become poll workers. According to 2020 data, only 9% of poll workers in the U.S. were under the age of 25, with 3% being under the age of 18.
