Three Democrats file for House District 31 seat

Two Spartanburg City Council members and a political newcomer have filed to run for the state House District 31 seat.

A special election will be held Sept. 26 to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. Harold Mitchell. The Democratic lawmaker resigned in May after 13 years of service, citing health reasons.

So far, three Democratic candidates — City Councilman Jerome Rice, 49, City Councilwoman Rosalyn Henderson Myers, 59, and political newcomer Angela Geter, 45 — have filed to run for the seat. The filing period ends at noon Saturday.

The Democratic primary will be held July 25. A primary runoff, if needed, would be Aug. 8.
