Workers protest during Nashville public schools meeting, alleging wage theft by subcontractor
A group of cement workers saying a company Nashville public schools contracted did not pay them brought the issue center stage during a Tuesday night protest at the school board meeting.
The group packed the room, brought signs and, during public comment, asked board members to put pressure on the contractor to ensure they are paid what they are owed.
The group told the district's school board Nashville's Orion Building Company subcontracted with Joe Haas Construction, who in turn hired the concrete company RSA Concrete for cement work at McMurray Middle School.
But they said to Metro Nashville Public Schools board members the concrete company was never paid $43,000 for their work by the subcontractor and are alleging wage theft.
