I wouldn't be a Texan if I didn't brag occasionally...Planning Ahead

“Begin with the end in mind.”

That’s one piece of advice from management guru Stephen Covey to people who want to be successful.

It’s also the advice that Daniel Orozco has for Southwestern’s incoming students.

Orozco is Southwestern’s new director of Career Services. He replaces Roger Young, who retired from Southwestern in August after serving as director of office since 1998.

Orozco is taking over an office that was recently ranked #7 in the country and #1 in Texas for Best Career/Job Placement Services by the Princeton Review. The ranking was based on responses to a survey of 126,000 students who attend the colleges included in the 2014 edition of The Best 378 Colleges.

Southwestern's roots date to 1840 when the first university charter was granted to one of its four predecessor schools, Rutersville College, north of LaGrange (and yes, that charter precedes Baylor). This upcoming semester, the largest incoming class of over 500 first-year students will be stepping foot on campus and the total enrollment will exceed 1,500 students.

In addition, Southwestern will return to the football field for the first time since 1950 with the first game scheduled against Texas Lutheran University. The football program is Division III (non-scholarship athletics) and over 100 students rose to the occasion by joining the football squad. They will join Trinity University and Austin College as the universities with football teams in the realigned Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Texas Lutheran University will be admitted to the conference in 2014 since their football program transitions for scholarship athletics to a non-scholarship program.

Pardon my lack of humility for being proud of my alma mater, but in the meantime, "Pillage Pirates, pillage!"
