Having class teach bully a lesson earns educator jail time, probation

A former Judson Independent School District teacher convicted of official oppression for instructing students to hit a class bully was sentenced Tuesday to two years of probation with 30 days of jail time.

State District Judge Sid Harle said he wanted to prevent Cynthia Ambrose, 44, from teaching for two years, the maximum probation term allowed.

He was displeased to learn Ambrose faced only a one-year suspension by the Texas Education Agency. He allowed her to serve the jail sentence on work release or to report to Bexar County Jail on weekends.

Ambrose cried when she was handcuffed and became sick as she waited in the jury box.

The lesson to be learned is that violence should not be condoned anywhere. The teacher showed a serious lack of judgment and we'll probably here about a civil lawsuit in the future.

She instructed her students to hit another student. I don't give a good goddamn what the "reasoning" there was, that's flat-out un acceptable and this sentencing is warranted.
