Woman dies after shooting near Katy's Tompkins High School
Officials say a man who held a SWAT team at bay in Brookshire killed himself after fatally shooting his estranged wife at a Katy high school early Friday morning.
Texas DPS SWAT officers entered the home on 1st near Cooper about 10:30 a.m. and found the man dead in the front bedroom with an self-inflicted gunshot wound in his head, according to DPS Sergeant John Sampa. A .22-caliber rifle was found at the scene. Sampa said it was unclear if the rifle was the same gun used in the shooting at the school.
Officials said the woman was killed as she arrived for work at about 6:10 a.m. at Tompkins High School at 4400 Falcon Landing when her estranged husband approached her in the parking lot and shot her. He then was seen driving away in a pickup.
Deputies arrived at the school and found two coaches performing CPR on the wounded woman, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office. The woman was rushed to Katy Memorial Hermann hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
