What with the back-splash with the government shut-down (something that is likely to continue for a couple of weeks, plus the looming debt ceiling fight), I can't help but wonder: Is 2014 the year we and our fellow Texans vote out John Cornyn?
I think our chances are better than last time. A lot of right-wingers and low-information voters might want to blame President Obama for the present state of affairs, but I fear this crisis is a heck of a learnin' stick, even bigger than Iraq. Also, some of Cruz's antics have got to be splashing on Cornyn as well as Ted.
Moreover, there is the matter of the junior senator from Texas, Mr. Ted Cruz. Replacing Kay Bailey Hutchison with a do-nothing-but-create-chaos senator deprived Cornyn of a lot of padding that Hutchison's (limited) constituent service provided. Moreover, the senior senator from Texas seems to have been eclipsed by his Tea-bagging counterpart. Moreover, with the large Tea Party faction in the Texas GOP, Cornyn doesn't DARE drift very far towards the senator.
I can't help but wonder if asking Texas voters why they need TWO do-nothing Tea Party senators instead of one might be a good idea. Another might be voting Cornyn out of office to punish Cruz might not be another good meme.

(2,674 posts)The two things that get him elected is that he is a repub and that he has the "movies look" for the public's idea of a southern senator. Tall, white haired, ruddy faced. But it all stops when he opens his month. He never fails to amaze me with all the stupid things he can say. He is neck in neck with L.Gohmert for being a stupid Texas politician.
He has moved to the right because he can see the tea party sniping at his heels. He will probably has a tough primary. I hope the Texas Dems can get a good candidate to run against him.

(2,674 posts)Being a concerned Texan, I have sent him many emails (along with Kay Bailey Hutchinson). He never answers, but always sends me an email asking for money. Kay B. always answered my emails and I never got a begging letter from her.

(145,242 posts)I love the concept that Glenn Beck wants Louie Ghomert to primary Sen. Boxturtle
For several days now, Glenn Beck has been leading a campaign to convince Rep. Louie Gohmert to launch a primary challenge against Republican Senator John Cornyn in Texas. Today, Gohmert called into Becks radio program where Beck told Gohmert that he had been praying on the question and the answer that he heard from God is that Gohmert should run.
Ghomert demurred, saying that hed need to raise millions of dollars to launch such a challenge, which prompted Beck to tell him that he should not worry about that since God will provide all the funding he would need because we live in a time of miracles.
You are the guy, Beck assured him. As long as were on Gods side, who could stand against us?
