Dewhurst says he doesn't know if Patrick unfit to serve

On the first day of early voting for the May 27 runoff election, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst cast a ballot for himself Monday as the candidate with the experience and character for the job, but said he did not know whether a raft of rival Dan Patrick’s psychiatric records from the 1980s that were released last week suggest that the Houston senator was in any way unfit to serve.

“I don’t think that facts or incidences which occurred years ago are relevant unless they provide an insight into one’s judgment or capacity to govern and lead,” Dewhurst told the American-Statesman before casting his ballot at the early voting trailer in the parking lot of the H-E-B supermarket at South Congress Avenue and Oltorf Street.

But Dewhurst said he does not yet know enough about what was in the hundreds of pages of court transcripts, depositions and psychiatric notes to render a judgment about whether there is anything in Patrick’s current behavior which suggests that those decades-old-records might have some continuing resonance.

“I have not read or reviewed nor read one piece of paper,” Dewhurst said. “I may be able to in the near future.”

Well of course Dewhurst hasn't read or reviewed nor read one piece of paper, because there is this new thing called the Internet and you get to look at a screen instead. It's kind of scary that Dewhurst chooses to remain so uninformed.

BTW, to follow-up on his comments--yes, Dan Patrick is unfit to serve regardless of his mental health issues.
