Officials: One dead after plane crashes in Austin

Earlier: A privately owned plane has crashed in Austin near Texas 71 and U.S. 183, according to city and county officials.

The crash was reported around 1:45 p.m.

Rick Rutledge, a spokesman and paramedic with Austin-Travis County EMS said crews are still fighting fires at the scene as a result of the crash and could not provide any further information.

Jim Halbrook, a spokesman for the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport said the plane is privately owned but that he did not know how big it was.
