Nelson Bunker Hunt, second son of legendary wildcatter H.L. Hunt, dies

Nelson Bunker Hunt, one of the most famous Texas oilmen and dealmakers, died Tuesday in an assisted living facility in Dallas after long battles with cancer and dementia. He was 88.

The death was confirmed by his sister Caroline Rose Hunt.

The second son of oil legend H.L. Hunt, Bunker was briefly thought to be the richest man in the world with his discovery of a Libyan oil field in partnership with British Petroleum. Those interests were later nationalized by Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

“He was very smart and he was willing to take a risk,” said his sister, “because he could see the prospects of what it might make.”

I knew where "Bunky" lived in Highland Park. He was as right wing as his father.
