University of Houston-Victoria get real-life jaguar mascot at Texas Zoo
After a 69-year absence, the once-native jaguar has returned to South Texas.
"I'm shocked," said 6-year-old Greg Buesing, of Victoria, said.
Greg was among about 60 people who welcomedat the Texas Zoo's newest animal, jaX, a 41/2-year-old jaguar, Monday evening.
The University of Houston-Victoria donated $15,000 to the Texas Zoo to help bring the jaguar to Victoria. The gift covered the renovation of the former lion cub exhibit and travel expenses from Wild World of Animals in Pennsylvania, said Texas Zoo director Amanda Rocha.
