Family of woman killed in Longview PD lobby files $10M lawsuit

Kristiana Coignard, 17, was reportedly shot to death by Longview police officers in the lobby of the police station, Jan. 22, 2015.

The family of a teen who was fatally shot in the Longview Police Department lobby filed a federal lawsuit today seeking $10 million in damages.

“We electronically filed the lawsuit today (Tuesday), as a 1983 civil rights action filed in federal court, as a violation of Kristiana’s Fourth Amendment right against aggressive search and seizure,” the family’s attorney Tim Maloney, of San Antonio, said. “We’re also filing under Title 2 of the Americans with Disabilities Act, based on Kristiana’s history of mental illness.”

Kristiana Coignard, 17, was shot on the evening of Jan. 22 in the police department lobby after she asked to speak to an officer and then brandished a weapon at them.

A grand jury on June 26 declined to take action against officers Glenn Derr, Gene Duffie and Grace Bagley, who were involved in the shooting.
