Man accused of stabbing 5 to 6 people at East Austin concert

Austin police arrested and charged Jimmy Baylor, 23, with aggravated assault after a fight broke out Thursday night, resulting in Baylor stabbing five or six people, according to a news release from police.

Police say they responded to a call at 8:45 p.m. on the 1400 block of Rosewood Avenue. Baylor was said to have entered a business on the street that was playing music and joined in a mosh pit. Baylor removed his shirt, police said, and revealed Neo-Nazi tattoos.

This ultimately led to the fight that broke out over political views, police say. Police said the individuals who were stabbed belonged to several different races and stressed that this was not gang-related.

“Baylor does have white separatist views, but this is not considered a hate crime because no specific race was targeted in the stabbing,” the release said.

I know the venue, and it was really fun the times that I went there. It's Trailer Space records, and they have free live music several nights a week. It's an all ages, BYOB, very laid back situation. There is an excellent pizzeria next door (East Side Pies). The concerts I've seen there have been very cool and offered great variety. The crowd can be a little odd and unpredictable, but that's part of the charm. There's at least one homeless guy who shows up frequently, but he seems to be a part of the record store "family", and is absolutely not a threat of any kind, pretty nice guy actually. It's too bad that this happened here, as it's such a funky and fun place, but it seems like a "one bad apple" thing. I hope it doesn't negatively impact them.
