George P. Bush trims more than 100 jobs from Texas land office

Last edited Sat Sep 19, 2015, 03:11 AM - Edit history (1)

AUSTIN -- At least 111 state workers have been fired, retired or have quit the Texas General Land Office — about 17 percent of the agency’s workforce — under the leadership of George P. Bush, whose so-called reboot has drawn criticism from his predecessor, who says the agency is suffering under “a purge.”

Bush, who was elected last November to his first public office, said this week that he’s fulfilling his campaign promise to make the General Land Office more efficient.

“I campaigned as a fiscal conservative with proven experience in the private sector seeking to make government more efficient and responsive,” he told the American-Statesman, adding he’s taking a “surgical approach to reforming the agency.”

“That means methodically restructuring all areas of operation and keeping high performers who are serving well, while attracting talented professionals to help lead this organization to serve Texans better,” said Bush, who is the son of GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush and is considered a rising star in the Republican Party.

And then if it does improve then workers like it. I am sure in 6 months they'll see if it works or not.

I speak with experience in mapping that we just get the data from them. We're also talking about a huge amount of data spread over an entire state (which is larger than some European countries.) Not everyone that uses the land office is a big O&G company. There are a limited number of those. There are thousands of small to medium engineering firms that need good access to the land office to do their work for the bigger companies. What would be the sense in the big O&G companies moving their people into those vacated positions? They'd lose money if the smaller firms couldn't do the engineering and planning for them.

As an example of the data available currently (so long as they don't screw it up) is the following online and fully interactive GIS map:

Engineering and planning are right next door.

After the Energy Act of 2005, what happens now to the lands of Texas, is completely up to Oil and Gas, just ask Cheney and several Energy Company meetings that the Supreme Court allowed to keep in secret. Oil and Gas just removed its lawsuit against the City of Denton. Voters were using an election to control the use of any property, as well as their own property, in the city limits.

Now if TPP passes, the the Air, of any state, including Texas, will also be at the mercy of oil and gas decisions. Just read the new part of the TPP that Paul Ryan tacked on, one morning, about 2:00 AM in Congress.

What are the policies of Hillary Clinton about TPP? While Secretary of State, her revolving door team helped set up the privatization of Mexico's National Oil Industry. That is bad air blowing into Texas!

Further, Sharon Wilson, an organizer for Earthworks — an environmental group that campaigned for the fracking ban in Denton — pointed to a quote from George P. Bush back in October. “Enough…big government solutions to our problems,” George P. Bush said at an October event his father Jeb Bush also spoke at.

“Denton residents, not politicians, directly spoke in overwhelming numbers that they don’t want fracking in their city,” Wilson told DeSmogBlog. “Overturning the will of the people by government fiat is the very definition of big government. George P. is going to have to put his money where his mouth is or decide if his mouth is where his money comes from.”
