Related: About this forumGood news. My brother is employee of the year at the hospital where he works!
He gets the coveted parking spot and various other goodies (I don't know yet).
Maybe he will be in a good mood for a few hours.

(135,425 posts)It's a wonderful thing on the hottest, coldest, wettest or windiest day of the year!
And OH, what PAIN to give the thing up!!!
If he's in a good mood now, a year from now he'll be bullshit!!! Mark your calendar!!!!
I've worked in jobs where I parked STEPS from my office, and other jobs where I had to hike a country mile to get to my desk. When you have to struggle to find a place to park, it makes your day start of with a clear element of stinkage~! Just having that convenience of parking easily does make a difference...and oh, how ya miss it when it's gone!!!

(112,252 posts)He might get his picture in the local newspaper and he was going to wear a dingy sweatshirt to the holiday party where he received the award The employees were told to wear something festive and I asked him if he wanted to embarrass himself and his bosses at work by dressing so poorly? He ran out and bought a plaid shirt with Christmas colors and a little gold mixed in so hopefully he reward me for my excellent fashion advice.

(14,944 posts)Is he a human grumpy cat?

(112,252 posts)compared to my brother. He could have 20 great things happen to him in one day, but one minor nuisance will trigger a two hour rant about how unfairly life is treating him He is judgmental and lately his bigotry makes Archie Bunker appear mellow. We are about as opposite as two brothers can be. The only interests that we share are watching football games.

(4,935 posts)How can such grumpy person as you describe get to be employee of the year? I would imagine a positive, affirming, and general good demeanor would be required to get such an honor.

(112,252 posts)He can put on a good demeanor at work, but the minute he is off of the job his attitude changes drastically. It isn't only about how he treats me, but also what he says about people behind their backs.
He just arrived home and the good news is that he received a $500 check, a certificate and his picture will be in the newspaper and on the Website. They did the chicken dance at the party then my brother told me that when he took the photo he was standing in front of one of the reindeer and accidentally hit it and they all toppled down like dominoes.
At least he is in a good mood for awhile!

(135,425 posts)Especially if they "tone it down" in the workcenter.
The grumpy person can come across as
Efficient
No-nonsense
Work/task/mission-oriented
Willing to take on the unsavory jobs
More serious than the rest of the staff
If they actually DO the work, it can appear that they are doing MORE work, even though they are doing the same amount of work as the light hearted co-worker.
Every fault's a fashion--in the right circumstance, anyway...!

(112,252 posts)He is a respiratory therapist so he usually has some off time to run and pick up food for the nurses. He also corralled a man that escaped from the behavioral health unit who escaped and was walking down the highway going to Houston which kept the hospital from getting trouble.
He does have some good qualities to him, it's just that I take the brunt of his emotions when he is in a foul mood.
