From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, 11 people suffering from medical issues as a result of K2 usage were taken to local hospitals, according to Austin-Travis County EMS officials.
These new incidents bring the total number of people taken to hospitals since Friday at 3:30 p.m. to 36 people, medics said.
EMS Capt. Darren Noak said similar upticks in incidents like the ones this weekend happen every once in a while, but it is hard to determine the cause.
Weve seen spikes that are sometimes very short lived and have seen spikes that are long lived at times, he said.
