Wallace Hall out as UT regent as Gov. Greg Abbott signals end of divided era in Texas higher ed
AUSTIN Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday appointed three new regents to the University of Texas System Board, signaling his desire to move past the years of rancorous infighting over higher education policies that marked his predecessor's tenure.
Wallace Hall who has warred with campus leaders and two chancellors and allies Brenda Pejovich and Alex Cranberg should be replaced by former Sen. Kevin Eltife, businessman Rad Weaver and former Regent Janiece Longoria, Abbott said.
"The past is the past. The important thing is that we move forward," Eltife, R-Tyler, said shortly after the appointment was announced. "I'm extremely honored and appreciative to Governor Abbott."
The Senate Nominations Committee must confirm these new appointees before their tenures formally start and the previous regents' expires.
