Southwest Key Program, a company that runs shelters for the U.S. government for immigrant children, laid off nearly one thousand employees in Cameron County this week, said company president Juan Sanchez.
Today the company held a meeting at the Brownsville Events Center to discuss what unemployment benefits the workers have available to them.
The employees say they were caught off guard on Thursday when they were informed they were losing their jobs. Employees said officials held a meeting at the Southwest Key facility Padre Island Highway and once inside the building, employees noticed the hallways were barricaded.
966 employees from the Brownsville, San Benito and Harlingen locations said their employment has been terminated.

(10,279 posts)over the past 3 months declined substantially. Excess staff had to be terminated. The desire to enter TrumpWorld is going down fast.

(1,865 posts)I have really been worried about immigrant kids & US citizen kids born of immigrant parents..I am looking into becoming foster care for these situations.
My own livelihood is kinda precarious right now, but this lays heavy on my Heart. &if it's meant to be, the means will happen.
