Lou Diamond Phillips arrested in Portland on DWI charge

PORTLAND, TEXAS -- The man set to be the guest speaker in the Voices of South Texas Tour later today has been arrested in Portland.

According to Portland Police, an officer, on patrol, was on a separate, unrelated traffic stop on Moore Avenue in Portland at 1:35 a.m. when Phillips pulled in behind the officers patrol unit.

The officer approached Phillips’ car went investigate; Phillips said he was lost and needed directions.

Portland PD says the officer, suspected Phillips had been drinking and called for backup.

When officers arrived, they conducted a field sobriety test and arrested Phillips for driving under the influence. He was taken to the Portland Police Department where a breathalyzer showed Phillips having a 0.20 blood alcohol content, more than twice the legal limit.
