Hazmat team clears scene after 'suspicious envelope' sent to First Baptist Dallas

Dallas Fire-Rescue hazmat crews cleared the scene at First Baptist Dallas on Sunday morning after someone at the downtown megachurch received what was deemed a suspicious envelope.

The incident was reported around 8:30 a.m. at the church in the 1700 block of San Jacinto Street. The church had Easter services scheduled for 9:15 a.m. and 10:50 a.m.

Hazmat crews cleared the incident around 10 a.m.

Fire-rescue spokesman Jason Evans said there was nothing threatening about the letter, but it had been dropped off in an unusual location.

First Baptist's 12,000-member congregation is led by the Robert Jeffress, an outspoken supporter of and adviser to President Donald Trump.
