Austin -- Watch For Motorcyclists: Republic Of Texas rally revs up Thursday

The Republic of Texas Biker Rally, an annual event that brings thousands of motorcyclists into Austin, will begin Thursday and run through Sunday.

On Twitter, Austin police reminded motorists to look twice for motorcycles, which Austinites will see on the road in greater numbers than usual this weekend.

Parts of downtown Austin will be closed from 6 p.m. Friday to midnight as bikers parade down Congress Avenue, one of the rally’s major events.

On Saturday, ZZ Top will headline the event at the Travis County Expo Center.

The last time that I was in Austin during a ROT rally was in 2012. I believe that three motorcyclists had already died by the morning of the second day.

I recommend bringing ear plugs if you plan to go downtown or at any of the events.

Let's see, Republic of Texas? So does that require secession from the U.S.? YOHABLO Jun 2018 #1
They can plan their secessionist activities outside of Austin. TexasTowelie Jun 2018 #2

I haven't lived there in awhile, but I always enjoy returning there (even though the HOT rally is usually on the same weekend as my birthday).
